Hi this is Adèle, Lucy and Aoife and we are going to tell you about sailing.

This is a little bit of advice for your first day of sailing.
You will need to wear swimming togs, a rash vest, a wetsuit, preferably a long one, waterproofs, booties or old shoes and a buoyancy aid which we will be able to provide for the first while.
Rash Vest
You will need this for two main reasons:
To keep you a little warmer
To stop you getting irritations or rashes from your wetsuit
Wetsuit
It is a good idea to have a long wetsuit as it will keep you warmer once you get cold and wet. You can buy shorter ones but these aren't as effective.
Waterproofs
These are used to keep the wind off your wetsuit so you will not get as cold after being in the water. It is good to have both trousers and a top for your waterproofs.

Booties / Old shoes
It is best to have booties rather than shoes because they warm up the water in your booties keeping your feet and you warmer after being wet.
Buoyancy aid
This will keep you afloat in the water when you fall in. You must wear a buoyancy aid or you will not be allowed out sailing. We will only provide you with a buoyancy aid for the first while of your sailing and then you will have to get your own.
You can buy this gear in marine shops such as:
Wind n Wave
Windmill
Viking Marine
Western Marine
53۫ North
On your first couple of days of sailing you will be put in a boat with an older, more experienced, sailor who will take you through some of the basics. Do not worry if you fall in the water because your buoyancy aid will keep you floating
