Quading 2011
Quading 2011
When we had finished getting geared up and ready, we followed our instructor out to the quads in the field. Squelching through the muck, we divided into two groups. We all had a go at the adult quads and before we started, our instructor gave us some tips on how to lean into the corners, when on the quads. A quick stationary practice, and the instructors went around starting our engines for us. We tested the brakes before we set off.
The rescue crew went first. It took a while to get used to the quads (even for those who had already been on them!) but eventually, we all were in the flow of things. The rescue crew started by going through slalom courses of old tyres and getting used to the steering of the big. heavy quads. The rest of the kids did the same but took it slowly.
When everyone was eventually ready and comfortable on their quads, we moved onto different fields. The kids stayed around the few fields exploring the mud and feeling very thankful for the full suits and boots. The rescue crew went around the back of the fields and through several small rivers which were full of thick, muddy water. Everyone enjoyed themselves going through the mud!
The kids were very good on the quads and it didn't take them long to get used to the feel of them.
Lucy's quad stalled at the bottom of the second hill and the instructor was forced to walk into the mud and restart her quad for her :) It wasn't long before all of us were moving on into some hairpin bends.
The hairpin turns were hard but all of the rescue crew managed to go through them without any serious mistakes. :) We went over some fallen branches and through more small rivers. It was great fun!
After the quading, we all pulled up to where we had begun and went back to the centre to get changed again. It didn't take long and we were soon back on the bus and on our way to Enniscorthy for some lunch in BurgerMac. We spent less than an hour having lunch and talking about our adventures of the day before hopping back on the bus for the long drive home. It was dark when we reached the club and everyone was tired but thoroughly enjoyed themselves! :D Big thanks to Kyron for arranging the day. :)
