Sailing Workshop

We had a workshop on for sailing from 16th June to the 19th. It was great fun and all who took part learnt a lot. Here are some pictures and a little bit about it.

Our Sailing Workshop was for 2nd to 5th crews. We unfortunately had a lot of bad weather with bursts of rain and strong winds. We got some great pictures of our windy sailing!

On the first day we adventured to the island marina and learnt some new skills for example; speed control and how to steer the sailing boats safely.

Aoife and Leah pushing out the boom to slow down during speed control lesson.

On the second day, the wind picked up and we went out to the Tornado's mooring to practice approaching.

Cormac and Clodagh operating a jib sail on the front of their boat.

On the third day the wind picked up even more and sailing became very difficult with strong winds. We practiced ropework, more approaches, what to do when you capsize and hiking out. We also did some very helpful triangular courses.

Leah and Aoife climb on their turtled boat to de-cap it.

After their capsize, Leah and Aoife get warm with hot chocolates on board the Launch.

Cormac and Clodagh tacking up on their triangular course.

On the last day the weather cleared up a bit but the wind remained strong. Everyone had a great time with triangular courses and racing.

Aoife and Leah hike out to avoid capsizing.

While the others sailed up and down the starting line for the beginning of the race, Richard and Seamus clipped on their jib.

Cormac nearly got a penalty after hitting the mark!

In the second race with Aoife, Cormac and Richard. Aoife won. Here Cormac is securing second place seconds before Richard.

Leah and Aoife were overjoyed when they won their race.

Cormac uprighting his boat during the race.

Leah and Amy had a very competitive race.

They simultaneousely capsized.

It was a great week overall! :)

Hope you had a good time and join us for our Launch workshop next week.
