Kayak Week.

From Monday the 9th of June to Friday the 12th of June we had a kayak week it was great fun and we did something different every day. Here are a few photos and a little bit about the week.

On Tuesday  the 9th of June it was very windy and there was a lot of swell out in the bay. Our brave kayakers paddled out of the harbour and around the back of the west pier. They got splashed a lot but that didn't bother them.

For a challenge the kayakers tried paddling into the waves . It was very hard but they were happy to keep going. Here's a picture of our kayakers paddling slowly into the distance.

After their challenging paddle into the waves the kayakers took it easy and paddled with the waves to the top of the west pier where they lifted their kayaks into the water and paddled to the Launch where they ate their hard earned lunch.

On Wednesday the 10th of June our kayakers were towed out to Dalkey Island where they paddled the whole way around in groups of three. The kayakers kept paddling despite the strong winds and tides.

While the kayakers were paddling around the island they made friends with some very friendly seals who followed them the whole way around the island. Some of the seals were funny colours and there was a few baby seals as well.

The kayakers were tired when they were paddling around the last corner but they kept going because they knew their lunch was waiting for them on the launch. They were delighted to see some food after such a long journey.

After all the kayakers returned to the launch they all paddled over to the island were they found a nice rock to sit on and eat their lunch. They saw a lot of seals following them and basking in the sun. After about 15 minutes they left the island bringing all their rubbish with them and headed back in.

On Thursday the 11th of June, we had a fishing day, but we were fishing in kayaks. This seemed easy at first but when you catch a fish it gets funny. The kayakers were towed out near the Muglins by the launch. The girls caught one fish named Bob he wasn't that big but was defintely better than nothing. It was such a surprise to actually catch something that it nearly proved impossible to take him off the hook!

The kayakers paddled out and away from the anchored launch and dropped their handlines in the water, then they waited for a fish to come along. We tried taking our lines with us and paddling also called 'trawling'. A few seals came to say hello as well!

The Irish Lights ship was out as well playing with it's brand new Redbay boat.

Leah fell in the water a lot on Thursday and Aoife was happy about her catch.

David drove us home after our successful day of fishing.

On Friday the 12th of June, we paddled out to Scotsman's Bay and then paddled into Teddy's for an ice cream. It was also very windy on Friday and the kayakers ended up getting a tow at the harbour mouth because the HSS was coming in.

The seals came back to us again on Friday while we were eating our lunch on the launch after our Teddy's ice cream. It was very cold out so Kyron made everyone hot chocolate on the new cooker that was put on the launch.

And that was our Kaykaing week it was very fun and we hope you enjoyed the pictures. Don't forget to come down for our Sailing week next week from the 16th to the 19th at 11-3.
